Today, I'm very pleased to bring you an interview with paranormal romance author Marie Treanor about her exciting Blood Hunters series. Be sure to check out information about her latest release in this series, Blood Descent, as well as a great giveaway at the bottom of this post.
In Blood
Descent (Blood Hunters 3), the
vampire killer, Konrad, is in search of a dangerous instrument that might help
him in his war with the undead overlord Saloman. The only being who can lead him to the instrument and its current, evil
possessor, is sexy, mysterious, young Glaswegian vampire Maggie, who holds
herself aloof from her own kind.
Why is Maggie the only one who can connect Konrad to the instrument?
It’s complicated! Konrad learns the instrument’s in the hands of a French vampire called Georges, but he doesn’t know where Georges is. Then he discovers Maggie knows the name (Geroges is one of the few vampires who’ve helped her, and now he wants the favour returned).
Why is Maggie aloof to other vampires?
That’s complicated too J. Other vampires have always picked fights with her, so she keeps out of their way. Partly because of that, she’s retained a lot more of her humanity than most vampires. The reason other vampires feel compelled to attack her becomes clear as you read the book J.
From the blurb of Blood Descent, “The face of a killer, the heart of a lost child…
Konrad once led the legendary first team of Hungarian vampire hunters. Now, refusing to ally with the undead, he goes his own way, slaughtering vampires across the length and breadth of Europe.”
Is Konrad the person with the heart of a lost child? Is this one of the
characteristics that draws Maggie to him? What else does she see that is good
or kind about him? Why is Maggie the only one who can connect Konrad to the instrument?

Yes, he is and Maggie’s one of the few who recognize that. He’s hard and driven, and regards all vampires as monsters who have no right to exist. But there are reasons he thinks this way, and he is basically a kind man (to humans and animals at least!) and a loyal friend, fighting for an almost impossible cause he believes in absolutely – the destruction of the hunters’ alliance with Saloman’s regime and of the vampire species. Another of his reasons for finding the instrument is that it’s being used against his friend Elizabeth Silk. He’s also hurt by what he sees as the betrayal of his closest friends, hunters Mihaela and Istvan (from previous books in the series!), so beneath his tough outer shell, he’s also vulnerable and lonely…
Journalists are about to break the news of vampire existence on mainstream television. What facts/discoveries have brought about this story?
Oh goodness. Well, that really goes back to the prequel series, Awakened by Blood (Blood on Silk, Blood Sin and Blood Eternal). As Saloman enforced his rule over the world’s vampires, they started to change their behavior. They stopped killing humans and so saw less reason to hide. So rumours started to spread in Blood Eternal, and this became part of Saloman’s plan to bring about the acceptance of vampires and their integration into human society. The hunters who’ve allied with him in order to maintain vampire discipline, are less keen on that, but they realize the secret of vampire existence can’t be put back in the box and their best option for avoiding mass panic and a human-vampire war, is the gradual release of information. Saloman is using the interest of a well-known television journalist to push his plan forward faster…
Elizabeth Silk labors to give birth to Saloman’s daughter. What consequences might this birth bring?
That’s the big question J. The child of Elizabeth and Saloman has been prophesied to bring about peace between humans and vampires and to ensure the survival of both species. Konrad regards the baby as “devil’s spawn”, a guarantee of Saloman’s dominance over humanity by making vampires appear acceptable in cute baby form. Rebellious vampires – and they’re chaotic by nature – are also worried by a Salaoman “dynasty” personified in a partial human. Elizabeth believes the child’s very existence will improve understanding between humans and vampires. After all, vampires aren’t meant to be able to breed, so the baby is a bit of a miracle in herself!
Marsha, thanks so much for asking about the book, and for having me on your blog today J.
