I'm excited to welcome a good friend and wonderful author, Ciara Knight. I had the chance to ask her about her new fantasy release, The Curse of Gremdon. She gave lots of insight to tempt me to read the book...sounds great! Hope you enjoy the interview...
In The
Curse of Gremdon, how do the elders expect your hero and heroine, Tardon
and Arianna, to save the castle? Are they the only warriors selected for this
task? Why were they chosen?
Tardon and Arianna are charged with
crossing to the Outer Realm to retrieve life saving serum from the Tree of
Life. I don’t want to give too much of the story away, but they are the only
two that end up making the journey for many reasons, but the main one is that
they are the best warriors in the kingdom.
What special capabilities prompted the
Elders to make Tardon an elite warrior? Is Arianna of equal status? Do her
abilities differ?
Each warrior must test to earn Elite
Status, and only when invited by the Elders. Tardon fought his way through the
ranks after his parents were killed. At the opening of the story, we find
Arianna fighting to earn her Elite Warrior Status. If she succeeds, she’ll be
the only female warrior of that rank.
What good will the serum from the Tree
of Life enable?
The Elders rely on the serum in order to
protect the castle. Each inhabitant wears an Amulet of Protection that contains
sap from the Tree of Life. Also, it helps protect against the Cursed, prevents
disease, heals wounds, and treats illnesses. Arianna is desperate to make the
journey because her brother has fallen ill with Death Fever, and the sap is the
only way to save him.
What sorts of “murderous creatures” pose
dangers to Tardon and Arianna in their quest into the outer realm?
The main danger is the Cursed. These are
creatures that were once family and friends. Can you imagine killing monsters
that you knew were once a loved one? There are also many wild animals beyond
the castle walls.
What other dangers does the curse bring
them? From the title, what does the word Gremdon refer to?
The Curse means that they will turn into
hideous grey skinned creatures, with hyper extended jaws, and a thirst for
death. Gremdon is the land they all live in.
Your wonderful cover art shows an amber
pendant in a lovely silver setting. Give us a clue how that fits into the
story.
It is the Amulet of Protection. Each
inhabitant is required to wear one in order to keep them safe from the Cursed
and illness. Unfortunately, they have run low on the sap from the Tree of Life
so the Elder’s power is failing, which is causing illness to spread and the Cursed
are starting to breach the walls of the castle. If Tardon and Arianna do not
succeed, they will all fall to The Curse of Gremdon.

Blurb:
In a world where marriage is forbidden, sex is only granted to male
warriors, and the outer realm is full of murderous creatures, Arianna fights to
protect the life of her only living relative, her brother.
Tardon, an elite warrior, is granted anything he desires by the Elders, but
finds little joy in the voluptuous women presented to him. Born for the
bloodlust found only in battle, complicated emotions emerge when he discovers
his equal in the alluring warrior, Arianna.
Charged by the Elders with saving the castle from attack, Tardon and Arianna risk the curse when they traverse the vast outer realm to retrieve serum from the Tree of Life. If successful, the Elders have promised Tardon the right to marry and Arianna the cure for her brother's death fever. Will their love carry them through or will the discovery of a great deception be their ultimate demise?

Sasha - Thanks so much. I'm excited that you want to read The Curse of Gremdon
Sounds like killing a Cursed you once knew would be like killing a family member who is now a zombie.
Good interview, ladies!
I like the idea of The Cursed as the bid bad monsters.
Now I understand the symbolism of the cover -- very cool. And yes, the twist of having to kill a creature that was once a loved one will make for powerful reading.
This was a great interview. I liked finally learning about the reference to Gremdon in the title. I didn't want to have to wait until I read it!! :)
Alex - That is pretty close to it. :)
SouthPaw - They are vicious.
Helena - It is something that would be extremely difficult, for sure. Kind of a fantasy version of the civil war. Brother against brother.
Brinda - I know what you mean. It will make perfect sense after you read the book. :)
