Tea Leaf Tales: Blood Moon May Cause Harmful Circulation Changes

It had never started with his feet; usually hair prickled slowly through the skin of his chest and belly where no one could see the change, so Mort had grown lacadaisical about checking moon rise times. Fur poked through his feet so thick, he had to remove his sneakers or circulation would cut off.
After the guy next to him said, “Cool Halloween costume, bro,” Mort nodded and touched a hand to his ball cap, a good excuse to pass a hand over his face. Only the normal whisker stubble. Not wanting to chance getting on the bus without something to hide behind, he strode to the newspaper stand and bought a copy.
Mort took a seat again and caught a horrific glimpse of his toes, now extending beyond the fur with heavy claws. He snapped the paper open against long wiry hairs protruding from his nose, where an article proclaimed, “Scientific study reveals that lunar gravitational change of today’s full Blood Moon may cause harmful circulation changes in persons who have blood disorders.”
Mort checked and then removed his watch straining under thickening hair growth. He dashed into the Dollar Store next door, bought a plastic pumpkin bucket filled with cookies, and barely made back to catch the bus, where he offered treats to the passengers. With growls erupting from his chest, he stuffed his mouth with a cookie and sank onto a seat, thankful the month was October.
