Interviewing Lana Axe about her fantasy release War of the Wildlands

Today, I'm glad to bring you an interview with Lana Axe about her new fantasy release War of the Wildlands. Be sure to check out her book and also her great giveaway contest below.

*~*~*

In your epic fantasy, War of the Wildlands, unrelenting war between humans and elves threatens to destroy the forest forever. Is either side concerned about the destruction of the forest land?

Some of the older elves are concerned about the forests. The younger ones are more concerned with winning the war and defending their homes. Prince Aelryk does come to regret the destruction once he sees it firsthand.

A tyrant king has declared war on the elves and will stop at nothing to see them annihilated. Despite fighting savagely to defend their homes, the elves are outmatched by vicious attacks from highly skilled battle mages. What types of magic do the mages utilize in their attacks?

Being human mages, they mostly rely on energy attacks. Humans do not have inborn elemental powers, so they rely on careful study and a steady supply of potions. They are able to cast both fire and lightning once they have mastered the arcane arts.

The elven clans must join forces to have any chance of survival against the ruthless king’s army. How many clans exist? Are they normally friendly allies who support each other?

It’s unclear just how many clans are still living within the Wildlands west of the Blue River. They are self sufficient and rarely have need of each other. To the east of the river, there are the Sycamore Clan, the Mountain Clan, the Mulberry Clan, and the Silver Birch Clan. Normally, these clans would have little to do with each other. The war drives them together in hopes of defeating Na’zora.

During this turmoil, a young half-elf is forced from the human world he has always known and travels into the Wildlands to seek out his elven kin. Along the way, he learns to draw on the magic within himself to craft weapons of tremendous power. What types of magic does he find available to him?

Yori finds himself capable of earth magic. This means that his strong connection to the earth will allow him to place his own power inside of the runes he carves. He is instructed by his grandfather, who is also adept at earth magic.

When war arrives on the visitor’s doorstep, he must choose whether to stand with the family he has always known or the elves who share his blood. What are some of the pros and cons he must consider in making this decision?

The family who raised him lives among the humans. They have been his sole support since the death of his human mother, and he loves them very much. If he leaves, he has no way of knowing their fate, or if he will be able to return. Joining with the elves means that they will have more powerful weapons than the humans. If he supplies them with magical weapons, many innocent lives could be lost. That could include the lives of his human family, and that is a terrible thought. Of course, allowing the elves to be wiped out is also a terrible thought. Whoever he chooses to stand with could have the upper hand in this fight.

Briefly describe the magical systems of your world. How do those who are empowered gain their abilities?

All elves are born with some level of magical abilities. Unfortunately, most of the Wild Elves have turned away from the old magic ways. Still, there are a few who are endowed with great power. They simply have to learn how to unlock it. Humans, on the other hand, are not born with any abilities. Their mastery of magic comes with many years of study. Only the elite classes can afford to attend the College of Mages, but money does not guarantee they will succeed. Elves regenerate their magical stores with rest, but humans rely on potions to continue casting their spells.
