When Jade Kendell is brought into
the Bringer’s fold, she faces big changes. She risks revealing her own dark
secret. Her desire for a better life conflicts with a promise she made long
before she understood the ramifications. Has life in the fold given her hope
for a better life? If so, how? What might happen if her secret is revealed? Why
did she originally intend to kill Luc?
Jade definitely has hope for a better life. Up until the point where the Bringers accept her, she’s lived in the Shadow World, hiding and surrounded by demons. Most of her adult life has been spent tracking Luc so she could kill him because he had betrayed her family when she was just a little girl. If her secret is revealed, which Luc knows about, the rest of the Bringers might not trust her. There are a few other things that might happen, but I don’t want to reveal too much J
How does Jade put aside her intent to kill Luc when they work together on a deadly mission?
By the time they leave on their mission, Jade has realized the person she is trying to protect can’t be help and has turned deadly.
As differences are put aside and the pair must rely upon each other to face the impossible, attraction sparks. Tell me about the chemistry between them. What qualities about Luc does Jade begin to admire and/or desire? And what about Jade breaks the barriers around Luc’s heart?
From book one, Shield of Fire, Luc and Jade have shared an antagonistic relationship. He’s been a womanizing idiot, in her opinion. But even after he finds out her secret, he continues to protect her. His main concern is for her, even when she is resisting his assistance. Eventually, she sees that he’s not there to hurt her but to help, no matter how difficult their task becomes.
For Luc, he’s known Jade since she was a child and it’s not so much about breaking the barriers as it is him accepting her as a woman. She’s also careless and he has the driving need to protect her, not just because he’s a Bringer Shield, but because there is a deeper connection with her.
If Luc and Jade fail, it could mean the loss of their souls and give the Demon King exactly what he needs to open the Abyss of Souls and annihilate the Bringers. What might happen when he opens the Abyss of Souls?
If Vile, the Demon King opens the Abyss of Souls, he will command the most powerful army and take over all of Inness, enslaving humans and Bringers. At least that’s what everybody thinks will happen. *wink*
Briefly describe the magical systems of your world. How do those who are empowered (Jade, Luc, the Bringers, and the Demon King) gain their abilities?
That is a very long and detailed explanation. Bringers are born with their powers, even if they are dormant. There is a ritual they perform to draw out the powers of a mix-blooded Bringer. There are full Bringers, like Rhys and Ravyn from book one, whose parents are both full-blooded Bringers. A lot of the lines have been watered down as the Bringers married humans and produced children. Once empowered a Bringer is either a Shield, who protects, a Tell, who knows things, or a Redeemer, those who heal not just the body but the entire soul.
However, there are two other parts to this explanation that I can’t tell you about because they are vital to the culmination of the epic battle that is brewing and will eventually take place in book five. Sorry.
