Learning the witchy ways of magic ~guest post by Juli D. Revezzo, author of Mourning Dove Locket, Antique Magic Book Four

As a fan of the Antique Magic series, I'm looking forward to finding out whether Caitlin has learned her magic well enough to save a teenage budding witch caught in a web of danger. It's great to have Juli D. Revezzo here today, talking about how Caitlin learned her witchy ways.

*~*~*

My Antique Magic series began three entries ago with the heroine dealing with the effects of a curse on her family. In the course if her battle, Caitlin began to realize her own legacy as a witch. Where most fantasy series starring older protagonists (my kind host's excluded) see the heroine already well-versed in magic, I decided to step away from that tradition and begin Caitlin's education after adulthood, when she’s married and making her own life, dealing with the pesky ghosts that creep in.

Time and previous books in the series have marched on for she and her husband Trevor, and they know much more about magic, the paranormal, and what's on the other side of the thin veil between our world and that of the supernatural.  But a witch would be remiss to believe there's nothing left in both worlds to learn. One can learn the usual ritual formats from any good book in the New Age section of the bookstore. Almost any non-fiction book by a modern Neo-pagan covers ritual forms.

But Caitlin, as ever, finds she learns more from doing rather than reading. Learning-on the-spot, you might say. She has her hands full in the latest book in the series, Mourning Dove Locket, as a teen girl needs more than just help with a pesky ghost; she too is a budding witch, with a little more experience with the spirit world, true, but far less with the magic that Caitlin sees her trying to access. She, a budding medium, can hear and speak to ghosts, but what to do with them? Ah, that’s a magic only few in Caitlin’s world know. So who better to guide her on her journey someone who knows which doors not to open in her modern Gothic world? Someone like Caitlin?

If you'd like to see how they do together, MOURNING DOVE LOCKET  here’s the blurb.

For antique shop owners Caitlin and Trevor Fulmer, the intrusion of gods and ghosts is an unfortunate daily occurrence. After a young girl offers Caitlin a gold locket, however, she can’t help but notice it’s oozing with paranormal energy.

More significantly, the locket’s owner is surrounded by Otherworld spirits. Caitlin recognizes in the girl all the signs of a budding witch in the midst of a dangerous crisis.

Can she and her covenmates protect the girl and assist her in embracing her powers, before those beyond the veil extract their revenge?

The druids magic of Druid Warrior’s Heart ~guest post by Juli D. Revezzo

Today I'm so happy to have my good friend Juli D. Revezzo paying a visit to my blog. She has a guest post I'm sure my readers will enjoy, all about druid magic. Be sure to check out her new release, Druid Warrior's Heart.

The druids magic of Druid Warrior’s Heart
by Juli D. Revezzo

Druid Warrior’s Heart is the second book in my Celtic Stewards Chronicles series. The book follows a warrior, sent by the Tuatha dé Danaan (the Irish gods of legend) to protect Ruth Macken, caretaker of a property they want for their upcoming battle (one that takes place every 500 years. Hence the term harshad*). Their legend has come down to Ruth through the stories her family has told for how many millennia, she’s not sure. When tragedy strikes her family, she finds the warriors and their druids waiting. Marsha asked me here to explain more about their druids and their magic.

Our history shows that druids were a learned strata in Celtic society. They handled matters as far reaching as law, astronomy, medicine, keeping history, and religious rites for their people. To master these subjects, your average druid would spend twenty years studying these subjects and more including, according to some historians, magic. When I wrote the first volume in the Celtic Stewards Chronicles I decided to play on the magic I’d granted them in order to fight their harshad wars, and really grew to love them. So in Druid Warrior’s Heart, the second book in the series, I decided to see what the druids might’ve done in their earlier days. Enter Cyreth.

When we first met her, she was an old woman; but here, going backwards 500 years, I found her  just coming out of her druidic training, when she and the hero Isaac encounter Ruth. And boy does Ruth need help! Every time they turn around, the poor woman is attacked by monsters, and men. So right off the bat, Cyreth’s healing powers are called for. She also must strengthen a barrier the gods have already place around Ruth’s land.

Not only that, but Ruth’s a bit stubborn. When another threat looms, the hero, Isaac, tells Ruth to stay inside and away from trouble. The first thing she does is head for the doors. Cyreth pulls a trick and locks the house tight, keeping Ruth from leaving.

Don’t ask me how she does all this. I’m not the druid and Cyreth—stubbornly—lives up to the druid’s reputation of keeping their information seekrit. Yep. She won’t share the magic words with me. *glares*

She also has a knack for telling stories that live in the reader’s mind as she speaks. One night, Cyreth recites her work-in-progress, a poem of a long ago battle, and Ruth can actually see the battle taking place. Now that trick, I think we’d all love to know. J Nope. She’s not telling that one, either.

Ruth too has her own magic in that she can bring a dying plant back to life, and has visions. Part of her status as the steward of the sacred ground. But that’s nothing compared to Cyreth’s skills. For instance how exactly did they know Ruth was *the one*? Well, it has a little bit to do with astrology and a science that was very much unknown in our world in 1513, Ruth’s DNA. So to that society that knowledge would’ve seemed magic. There are other divine markers she interprets, as well. For instance, Ruth’s scar, that wouldn’t ya know it? Just happens to take a shape similar to a tattoo her hero Isaac had gotten who knows how long ago.  Given the two, Ruth’s magic or Cyreth’s? I’d love to know all Cyreth’s secrets, wouldn’t you?

Cyreth uses all this to help protect Ruth, bolster Isaac in his battle against Balor and his minions, and further and foster Ruth and Isaac’s budding love. I have a few more books in mind for this series, so I hope, by the end we’ll know all the magic secrets of Cyreth and the other harshad druids.

If you’d like to read more about Druid Warrior’s Heart, here’s the synopsis:

Synopsis:

As the latest in her family’s long line of Stewards, Ruth Macken awaits the arrival of a warrior sworn to the Tuatha dé Danaan, the Celtic gods her family has served since the beginning of time. For on that day, a magical battle will erupt. A war between druids and an evil that will decide the fate of mankind.
Isaac Connel knows the battle is imminent, and is ready to fight, once again but from the moment he sees Ruth flitting around the sacred ground, he’s captivated by her fiery charms and a need to protect her.
Despite Isaac’s assurances and the dreams that guide her, what can Ruth and her lover do to drive off this evil? Despite everything, will the world end at the hands of an evil god?

Not your common faery ~guest post by paranormal fantasy author Juli D. Revezzo

I'm very happy to have Juli D. Revezzo back today to share about her fae adventures in her new release, Changeling's Crown.

Not your common faery

by Juli D. Revezzo

Faeries have been around for ages, so we as observers have a certain view of them. But there are many kinds of faeries. For instance, the pretty, winged beings, the ones that populate pre-Raphaelite art and books. Those beings flit around almost like human bees.

And there are those who dance around toadstools at night. They are probably the most famous. Is it because they’ve been known to steal humans away? The stories say so, and goodness knows, such revelries can leave a partier’s memory quite hazy.

These beings also mixed with other mythologies. Specifically the type of faery we find in faery tales like Charles Perrault’s Cinderella. He turned the faery into a guardian not unlike the Fates. The result was a demotion, of sorts, to a benevolent mentor—the faery godmother. She is, according to author William Indick, “both a replacement mother for the archetypal abandoned heroine, and someone who can help her gain her every desire.” (p. 96).  In some stories, the faery godmother even refuses to help the princess she’s assigned to. (Not exactly the faery godmother any of us would want to have, I’m sure!)

So, there you have two sides, the mischievous and the benevolent fae.  I wondered, with such pressure upon these mentors, what if one couldn’t take it? Is there a specific temperament a faery godmother is supposed to have? And if so, can she conform to the perfect picture of a faery if she doesn’t have it built into her? This question permeated the story of CHANGELING’S CROWN as I began to write. My faery godmother, Ianthe, tries very hard to do everything expected of a faery godmother, but no matter how badly she wants it, she just never quite feels comfortable with the faery godmother lifestyle and duties.  She likes to do what she likes to do and that sometimes runs afoul of the “rules”. I guess that kind of life can be hard to live up to, for a gal who likes a little mischief now and then. ;)

Synopsis:

When Ianthe began her career as a faery godmother, she stumbled so badly that Snow White will probably never speak to her again. After a long suspension, she’s finally been given a chance to redeem herself…but everything on this latest assignment is going wrong.
But why?

Worse, she definitely doesn’t need an attractive mortal man distracting her from her duties. Of course, needs and wants are two different things.

Briak has had his eye on Ianthe for a very, very long time, but he’s been waiting for just the right moment to make his move. Despite the fact all hell’s about to break loose on his watch, he can’t resist the opportunity to insert himself into her earthly assignment. Can he convince Ianthe of her true calling and thereby win her heart? Or will his subterfuge ultimately cost him her love?

Excerpt:

Stymied for the moment, [Ianthe] turned to her kitchen, set a pot on the stove, and mixing bowls out to work on her contribution to the school’s party. She filled the pot with milk and set it to boil.
Another thunderclap and the power fizzled.
The room went dark.
Oh, for Thumbelina’s sake!
Ianthe tugged open the nearest drawer, feeling for a box of matches. Nothing.
She searched another drawer. Nothing.
She slammed the drawer shut and snapped her fingers. A tiny glow flickered to life at the end of her thumb. She crept into the living room and set the flame to her trio of candles. The fae lights blinked in a triple-branched tea light candelabra. The food, though—
Why, oh, why did King Heath insist they couldn’t give the humans anything by magic that they could procure themselves?
A million recipes flew through her mind. She could finish any one in moments with a little faery ingenuity. Any one would do to fulfill her promised contribution for the party. No. Forbidden.

Dear Ms. Siabelle,
Please see if you can convince His Majesty to revoke that silly rule.
Ianthe

There, she said to herself, send her that when you have a chance.
She rummaged in her pantry for anything to replace the custard she’d promised to make. And keep it cool in what until the power comes back?
She sighed and stepped back, hands on hips. She’d just have to work on it tomorrow. Unless…
She peered out the window and snapped the curtain shut so none of her human neighbors could see her at work. She tapped the stove’s front burner. The burner turned red as it heated. The milk in the pot simmered away.
Humming, she went to her refrigerator, and tapped its small light bulb. The light snapped on; the motor whirred. Ianthe smiled and pulled forth three cage-free eggs. She broke their shells and slipped the whites into a boiler pot. Five minutes should do it.
Now, what to do about Randall and Mallory? The situation proved worse than she first thought. Though they acted civil at the paddock’s fence as she tested the horse, they hadn’t worked together today to save her. Wouldn’t that have been a perfect opportunity for them to do so? No. Mallory had enlisted Briak’s help.
And what about Briak? He shouldn’t’ve worried about me. That he’d calmed the horse himself was nice, but why on Earth didn’t he let Mallory drive her back to the office? She didn’t need such a handsome distraction right now. Especially a human one. Her parents wouldn’t like that.
And then there was Mallory. The woman had a serious brownie in her bonnet about both Randall and Briak. Men stick together, is that why she snapped at Randall’s second in command? Or, was she only worried about the horse’s well-being?
Ianthe shook her head. “That poor horse,” she muttered.
If Randall doesn’t have to put it out of its misery because of Geldon’s violation, I’ll be surprised.
Ianthe shuddered. Possession by Geldon. Son of a goblin, was there anything worse?
The milk bubbled on the stove. She added it to the eggs and sprinkled in some cinnamon.
The couple needed money to fix the stables, Randall had said. Surely, the ranch made enough to cover its bills and then some. The children she’d seen milling around had seemed so enamored with the horses, was that not an example of the ranch’s popularity?
So what was the problem?
In no time, she had the first bowl of custard finished and set in the refrigerator to cool. She decided it might not be enough for everyone attending the party and put a second pot of water on to boil.
How on Earth could Randall want for anything, except of course the love of a good—
“What are you doing?”
Geldon’s voice brought her up short and Ianthe screamed and spun toward the speaker. Her heart pounded in her chest and she leaned against the counter, glaring at him. “What am I doing? What are you doing, you arrogant, son of a goblin?”
He laid a hand to his breast, his eyes wide and innocent.
She knew better.
“Me?” he said. “I just wondered when dinner would be ready.”
“Or if you could scare the life out of me?”
Geldon ignored the question, brushing dust from his gaudy gold silk vest. “You, on the other hand.” He narrowed his eyes at the pot. Ianthe stepped in front of it, shielding its contents from his filthy snort. He leaned sideways, trying again for a peek. “You’re breaking rules all over the place, aren’t you?”

Writing a Sacred Battle Scene ~guest post by fantasy author Juli D. Revezzo

I'm very pleased to have Juli D. Revezzo return and share how she wrote some of the engaging battles in her urban fantasy release, Passion's Sacred Dance.

Background for a sacred battle
By
Juli D. Revezzo

Several years ago I read Mists of Avalon by Marion Zimmer Bradley and that rekindled my interest in the Arthurian Legends. I’d been in love with them since childhood—probably because of Disney’s The Sword In the Stone. I even studied them in school courtesy of a brush with Joseph Campbell’s The Power of Myth. From there I found my way to The White Goddess by Robert Graves. We’ll just leave aside the conflicting thoughts on that legendary tome, but suffice it to say that led me to pick up a copy of the Mabinogion and other books of Celtic mythology. Those books are filled with tales of heroic deeds, goddesses appearing with mysterious directives for our heroes, and princes.

Sounds a bit like any beloved fantasy novel doesn’t it? I thought so too. So it wasn’t hard to mix it into my own urban fantasy romance novel, PASSION’S SACRED DANCE.

For me, the more exciting story of the battles between the gods of the Tuatha dé Danann and their foe the Formorians took precedence. You don’t know that one? Well, the story goes that one day a bard of the Tuatha dé Danann happened to enter the realm of the Formorians. Bards were well-respected at the time and no leader worth his salt would send one away empty handed.

The Formorian leader, Balor, however, thought he was above such hospitality and treated the visitor with disrespect. Perturbed the bard went home and told his king and kinfolk about the slight. The news appalled the Tuatha dé Danann and they went to war with the Formorie.

That war inspired the thought, ‘What if this battle was only one battle between the gods and their warriors? And what if these battles took place throughout time, and involved one specific family over and over and an ever-moving sacred battleground?’ Thus began what became PASSION’S SACRED DANCE. J Would you like a peek into this ongoing war?

Okay, Here’s an excerpt:

When the hairs on the back of Stacy’s neck prickled, a quick glance over her shoulder confirmed
the woman still watched her. Uncomfortable, Stacy strode to the far side of the café to escape the woman’s scrutiny. Something told her to look back.
The woman with the startling eyes stood right behind her, glaring. Her eyes glowed like quicksilver.
Creepy!
Miss Silver Eyes smelled of patchouli, musk, and some other strange scent she couldn’t identify.
The woman leaned close to Stacy’s ear, and her voice sounded raspy when she spoke, “We will have this ground. This harshad time, Stacy Macken, the ground is ours, and they will never dance again.”
Harshad? How did she know about the harshad wars? Had the time truly come, then, already?
Stacy stared as impossibly long incisors slid down from the woman’s gums like snake fangs. Miss Silver Eyes clamped a hand around her upper arm. Shock pulsed through Stacy’s body, rooting her to the spot, despite her mind’s order to flee. The woman’s steely gaze, the ruby and shark’s tooth earring glittering in her right earlobe, and the dark threat mesmerized Stacy.
“No, you won’t have this ground.” A cool male voice brought the silver-eyed woman up short and the fog lifted from Stacy’s mind.
Aaron Fielding stood before her dressed in casual jeans and a gray, cable knit sweater. He seemed right at home here among the students, and yet somehow he also stood apart.
The air shifted. Stacy could have sworn his leather coat, for just an instant, took on the shape of a golden eagle’s wings.
A high-pitched whine escaped from the silver-eyed woman’s throat. She cocked her head as she took Aaron in, a bemused smile spreading over her face as if she were privy to some private joke.
He retrieved an item from his coat. At first, Stacy thought the object might be a baton, and then it changed shape and substance, wood to steel. The innocuous baton became a sword.
An hysterical laugh bubbled up inside her and Miss Silver Eyes tossed her aside. Stacy landed hard against a table and gasped at the pain. She rolled over, sitting upright, and pulled her knees to her chest.
Miss Silver Eyes threw a punch at Aaron. He sidestepped her fist and flicked the baton-sword-thing at her head.
“Now, wait!” Stacy jumped to her feet and caught the baton before it bashed the woman’s face in.
Aaron grasped her upraised hand, removed it from the baton, and thrust her behind him. “For your own good, don’t interfere.”
Miss Silver Eyes screamed. Steel glinted from her fists as she rushed headlong at Aaron.
He raised the weapon while muttering something in a foreign language.
Stacy squeezed her eyes shut, too frightened to move. Surely, the woman would knock them both to the floor. The impact she anticipated never came. Instead, an explosion of light split the air. Cringing and blinking in the brightness, she saw that the woman, hands outstretched, had gone utterly still.
Stacy frowned as she studied the woman, wondering what happened.
Aaron repositioned the weapon he carried and shoved it into a hidden pocket in his coat. “Stay back.”
He clasped a hand around Stacy’s wrist and pushed her a little further behind him. Or tried. She dug her heels in and didn’t move. Aaron frowned hard.
“For your own good, stay out of the way,” he said.
“Why should I?” Her heart beat a wicked tempo and panic skittered through her.
“If the spell breaks before I’m done you’ll regret it, trust me.”
“Why should I do anything, let alone trust you? This is my gallery.”
“Would you rather have her—” He nodded over his shoulder to Miss Silver Eyes, and his breath hissed through his teeth. “—rip your throat out? No? Then, stand back.”
How dare the man order her around! “Now see here—”
A loud whining growl drew his attention from their budding argument.
Aaron turned back to the silver-eyed woman, grasped her arm, and whispered in her ear. Her feet
began to move, one step and then another, as a zombie might—unseeing and stiff in posture. Aaron kept a hand on her back, leading her to the entrance. He opened the gate and shoved her through, then slammed it shut with an Irish curse. He proceeded to mutter something, tracing a finger along the gate’s edge.
His words reminded Stacy of something out of Chaucer. Azure light danced around the gate’s
perimeter.
Aaron turned to face her. “This should never have happened,” he said. “Forgive me, Stacy.”
Surprised to see his medallion glowing with a soft golden light and his eyes an unearthly shade of green, Stacy gasped. She stepped back only to be jostled aside as the patrons slowly filed into the parking lot.
Wondering why the woman threatened her and why Aaron felt the need to rescue her, Stacy bent to pick up a broken glass—what had once been the discarded dishes before the fight started.
What was going on? Why was Aaron Fielding even here? A second more and she would’ve shoved the woman into her security guards’ hands.
“Thanks, but I didn’t need your help,” she said.
Peering through the crowd pushing through the back door, she could just make out the flutter of Miss Silver Eyes’ skirt. “What was that woman on?”
“Better to ask what she is,” Aaron said. Then he shook his head. “No. You don’t want to know. We were lax in our vigilance, and this intrusion never should’ve
been allowed.”

Announcing a new fantasy release from Juli D. Revezzo ~ Passions Sacred Dance

I'm so happy to announce the release of Juli D. Revezzo's new fantasy novel--Passion's Sacred Dance from her Harshad Wars series.

Description:
Battling mounting debt, Stacy Macken is determined not to lose her historic art gallery. When Aaron Fielding appears and offers to help, she fights to keep the attraction sizzling between them from clouding her judgment. He may be her savior in disguise--but can she trust him?

Aaron intrigues her with tales of the Tuatha dé Danann, sworn warriors who protect humanity from the monsters seeking their destruction. If Aaron can prove what he claims, she would give up anything to help--even the gallery he claims is sacred ground. But with her property set to stage the next epic battle, she needs answers. An old family diary will confirm the ancient legend is true, if only they can find it in time.

If the battle is lost, the enemy will take control of Earth for the next five hundred years. Stacy and Aaron's budding love might only complicate things.

Excerpt:
Aaron planted his stance against the ground like the roots of a great oak tree, and pulled out his harshad. He flipped the handle over in his hand and two flail-like ends emerged. The ends cut through the glass wall, and snaked around the lawyer’s throat like metal ropes, before tightening. The lawyer’s face began to turn red. Rendered immobile, he stumbled easily as Aaron gave the handle a hard tug. Stacy screeched as she tripped along with him. Aaron stepped through the wall, pried Bradley’s fingers from Stacy’s flesh, and shoved her protectively behind his back.
“Do me a favor,” he ground out between clenched teeth. “Call the number I gave you yesterday. They’ll  do us more good than 9-1-1.”
Stacy turned and ran for the hall as the lawyer  hissed out, “You should learn not to get involved,  unsavory one.”
Aaron swallowed his relief when he heard Stacy slam the door against the wall. He turned his attention back to the cackling lawyer.
“I would give you the same warning, human.” Aaron studied the man in earnest, his voice calm. “You  have no idea what you’re involved in.”
“I should say the same to you.”
“Oh, I know the depths of their malevolence.” He tugged Bradley’s shirt collar down to reveal the glowing green eye tattooed on his chest. The lawyer’s breathing became more shallow, and sweat trickled from his temple.
“Do you know what you’re dealing with? Think long and hard about which side of the debtors’ line
you’ll be on when the battle comes.” He slung the lawyer around, towards the back door. “Tell your masters this ground will carry my brand when all is said and done, or I shall gladly hound them to the ends of their unnatural lives!”

Spotlight on Caitlin's Book of Shadows--Demons, Goddesses & an Inherited Family Curse

Fellow author Juli D. Revezzo has released the first book of her Antique Magic series, called The Artist’s Inheritance, followed by a fascinating supplemental story that gives some additional texture to the tale.  Called Caitlin’s Book of Shadows, it’s FREE through tomorrow on Smashwords, and just $0.99 on Amazon and BN.com.

They're both wonderfully imaginative tales with lots of scary, magical moments!

Caitlins book of shadows v6_2smallBlurb:
Something terrifying stalks Caitlin and her beloved Trevor. Something the bits and pieces she left claimed she had to make sense of–or so legend says. When the curator of their collection finds Caitlin’s long forgotten diary, she wonders will it tell the whole tale? Will it tell why Caitlin seemed so determined to tell the difference between reality and nightmare even as she continued the fight to defend her family from evil? Will it explain why she thought her world twisted? If she really became a witch?

Perhaps the answer lies between the lines of her story, one of lessons, struggles, and the hopes she carried like a warrior’s shield.

This is a side (or supplemental, if you will) story in the Antique Magic series, a companion to The Artist’s Inheritance (Antique Magic, Book One).

The Artist's InheritanceBlurb:
Trouble only a witch can solve…
Settling into a new home, Caitlin notices changes coming over her husband. When nightmares deepen and ghosts begin lurking–Caitlin knows something’s not right, and not just her newfound precognitive abilities. It’s the damned chair her husband’s carving, she’s sure. Could it be just what it seems: a mundane piece of furniture? If so, why is it attracting dark forces–the forces she suspects drove Trevor’s siblings to insanity and suicide?

Armed with a handful of allies–a coven of helpful witches–she must proceed with caution against the hellish forces besieging her family. If she fails, she may lose forever the one thing she cares about most: her beloved Trevor.

Interviewing author Juli D. Revezzo about her new paranormal, The Artist's Inheritance

I'm pleased to be able to interview author Juli D. Revezzo about her new paranormal release, The Artist's Inheritance. She has some fantastic characters! Read her answers for some glimpses into their lives.

The Artist’s Inheritance has plenty of paranormal activity. Your lead character Caitlin develops precognitive abilities. What is she able to sense with her unique skills?

Caitlin begins seeing ghosts, most especially the ghosts of Trevor (her husband)’s dead brother and sister. But she can also sense there’s something not quite human about the men and women who start coming to call on her husband. She can’t exactly say what they are, at the outset, she just knows they’re different—and in some cases, extremely dangerous. Not to mention something very strange about the chair Trevor’s making.

These abilities are new to Caitlin. Do they frighten her? Does she deny them or eventually come to accept them?

She doesn’t really deny them, but they confuse her as much as frighten her. However, she gains three friends who are witches, and they help Caitlin make sense of her new ability. Through them, she becomes very comfortable in her new skin, so to speak.

The ornately carved chair that her husband, Trevor, seems driven to create attracts dark forces. Describe what these forces are like. Does he realize those forces are there? What effect do they have on him? On Caitlin?

The main one is an imp who takes on a human form (a being that harries humans just for its own amusement)—though Cait and Trevor’s is more of the life-threatening variety. Unfortunately for Trevor, he doesn’t understand the danger of the being. In fact he sees the “man” as his mentor—despite the fact that it keeps pushing him away from what he needs to do: sell his work. Instead, it keeps his artistic drive way up and keeps him working and reworking it, to the point of exhaustion. Caitlin realizes there’s something strange going on and tries to convince Trevor to ease up. Give the chair away, sell it, abandon it, whatever, and this causes tension between them and strains their marriage.

Why does Caitlin suspect those are the same dark forces that drove Trevor’s siblings to insanity and suicide?

There are certain similarities in the way Trevor’s brother and sister acted before their deaths. And of course with this being a thread throughout their family’s long history, and with Caitlin’s own dreams (and possible past life) tied into the lot, she can’t believe these things aren’t connected.

What hope does Caitlin have to help save Trevor from the same fate? What can she do?

The side of me that’s the evil creator of the villains wants to say “Absolutely Nothing! Muwahaha!” but of course, that’s not so. The good side of me says that she, knowing the family’s history, listening to the dreams she’s been having, and the little nudges from her guardian ghost, make her determined not to let Trevor fall prey to this…whatever’s going on, if it kills her. She’s very stubborn like that. She’s going to have to learn some things she never thought possible in order to save her husband: magic and to fight, not with him but for him. She’s going to have to stop backing down and force him to make a choice: Their love, or his art. Which would you choose?

Blurb:

Settling into their new home in Gulf Breeze, Florida, Caitlin finds strange changes coming over her husband Trevor. He seems obsessed with a beautiful chair he’s carving.

When the nightmares deepen and ghosts begin lurking—she knows something’s not right, and not just her newfound precognitive abilities. It’s the damned chair, she’s sure. Could it be just what it seems: a mundane piece of furniture? If so, why is it attracting dark forces—the forces she suspects drove Trevor’s siblings to insanity and suicide?

Before the same happens to Trevor, Caitlin must convince him to sell his art. But armed with only a handful of allies, and little experience of the supernatural, she must proceed with caution against the hellish forces besieging her family. If she succeeds, she will break the ancestral curse. If she fails, she may lose forever the one thing she cares about most: her beloved Trevor.
