I'm very pleased to be able to interview Debbie Peterson today about her new paranormal romance, Spirit of the Rebellion. CONTEST ALERT: Check the bottom of this post for ways to win a free copy!
Your heroine, Shae Lynn Montgomery,
is ready for a fresh chapter in her life and accepts a job translating some
Civil War documents from a Wisconsin Norwegian regiment. What difficulties did
her job entail before that made this a welcome change? Why does this particular
case interest her?
Shae
thoroughly enjoys both her job and her studies in Norway. However, a recent break-up
with her fiancée and the need to avoid the aftermath within in her social group
compels her to accept the assignment in Tennessee offered by her mentor. She
feels that with a year’s leave of absence, the hoopla, and gossip surrounding
the event, will no longer be an issue or of interest to anyone.
Shae
is very interested in this case because it involves the translation of
Norwegian documents, a language in which she is fluent, from the Wisconsin 15th
Regiment, commanded by the famous Norwegian ancestor of her mentor. She
welcomes the challenge, the experience, and the added knowledge it will provide.
What takes Shae Lynn to the Starling
Plantation? What does she need to find for her translation job?
The
discovery of these long forgotten Norwegian documents, in the attic of a home
very near Starling--now owned by the Tennessee National Trust--make the
plantation home the ideal place to set up Shae’s office and workspace. She has
agreed to stay in this home for a year while she translates the Norwegian
documents into English and the English records dealing with the 15th
regiment into Norwegian for a highly anticipated, upcoming exhibit at the Chickamauga
museum.
What are some of the ways Tristan
Jordahl, the ghost captain at the plantation, attempts to frighten Shae Lynn? Briefly
describe his powers.
The
first thing the captain does after her arrival is toss her luggage, and all
their contents, onto
the lawn of Starling. He follows this by verbally telling her she is not
welcome and that
she should leave before she regrets the decision to stay. His endless pacing,
echoing from
the third fall is also a bit unnerving as well.
Among
other things, the captain can speak audibly, appear quite solid looking, he can
pick things up, regardless of weight and move them around. He can interfere
with electronic devices. And, he has one other ability that surprises his
nemesis.
Obviously they are connected by
purpose, where Shae Lynn can reveal that Tristan is not guilty of treason, and he
can help her with her with the accuracy of her assignment. But they grow
closer. What draws Tristan to Shae Lynn and vice versa, her to him?
Tristan
is at first drawn to Shae Lynn’s tenacity and spunk, but as time goes on, he
finds
a
deeper connection to her soul, just as she does to his. Shae also finds
Tristan’s strength of heart, his courage, and his noble character, particularly
appealing.
What dangers do they face exposing
the truth about Tristan’s innocence?
The
dangers they face comes in the guise of the evil entity that murdered Tristan,
for he will do all in his power to stop Shae from uncovering the truth and
clearing Tristan’s name.
Thanks
Marsha, for inviting me to your wonderful blog!
I found it a pleasure to be your guest today!
Spirit of Rebellion
By Deborah K Peterson
Blurb:
Souls touch and
emotions flare when a historian and an embittered spirit form an unlikely
alliance to investigate the centuries-old riddle surrounding his death…
Ready for a
fresh chapter in her life, Shae Lynn Montgomery accepts a job translating a
cache of Civil War documents from Wisconsin’s famous Norwegian regiment. The
assignment takes her to Chickamauga’s haunted Starling Plantation and
face-to-face with a handsome captain—its angry ghost in residence.
Tristan Jordahl,
falsely accused of treason, has no use for the living—not even the lovely
translator invading his home. Despite Tristan’s best efforts to frighten her,
Shae Lynn refuses to leave, and reluctantly, Tristan enlists her help to clear
his name. But as they grow closer to the truth—and to each other—an evil spirit
makes it clear he will do anything to stop them.
Can a love that
transcends time overcome all obstacles?

Excerpt:
“You’ve
got to let me in, you have to let me explain, please,” she begged through the
barrier that separated them. “I swear on everything dear to me, I’m not
moving from this spot until you do. Do you hear me? I’m not
leaving!”
“I
am not interested in anything you have to say,” he growled back.
“I
don’t care. I’m staying right here until you hear me out!” she shouted.
As
the minutes ticked by, the Captain tried desperately to ignore her presence,
but finally, his shoulders slumped in defeat. The chiming of the clock
told him over an hour had passed since Shaelynn obstinately decreed her
intention to remain in the small hallway until she said what she wanted to
say. He hoped her wet clothes and the trauma of her earlier experience,
would force the issue otherwise. But true to her word, she still waited
outside his door.
Stubborn little hellion.
With
a sigh of resignation, he opened the door and met her defiant gaze. She
stood against the opposite wall, with one foot resting against the
baseboard. Her arms wrapped tightly around her waist as if seeking warmth
against her wet, torn clothing. On top of all that, she shivered with the
cold. She looked so pathetic standing there.
“Shaelynn,
you need to get into some dry clothes,” he said. The words surprised
him. They weren’t anywhere near what he planned to say. The soft
tone didn’t match either.
Shae
clenched her teeth and shook her head. “Not until we’ve talked.”
